OLD NEWS!

Platinum ABBA in Israel

Platinum ABBA performed an outdoor concert in Eilat, Israel in October 2007 to an audience of 2,000. A fantastic night and with great views from the stage of the Red Sea and the mountains of Jordan!

We returned to Israel the following week to play at a wedding in Tel Aviv for 400 people. It was a spectacular wedding reception - they really know how to do it in Israel. We then had another 4 big corporate events in March in Tel Aviv where we played to audiences of up to 2,500 - we had some fab shows there and all went well.

We were even taken on a guided tour of Jerusalem while we were there - what a lovely and very interesting city.

A number of future gigs are planned for the country, so are really looking forward to those.

Platinum ABBA in Portugal
Where They Drew a Crowd of 15,000!
Platinum ABBA live in Vizela, Portugal Platinum ABBA tribute show - crowd in Portugal

Following many successful trips to Portugal and Madeira, Platinum ABBA played a wonderful outdoor event in the City of Vizela as part of the festivities for the Mayor of Vizela in August 2007 to a storming crowd estimated by the promoters to be in the region of 15,000 people! We know from emails in to the fan club that some Platinum ABBA fans holidaying in the area were intending to come to Vizela to see us. If you did, and we didn't get to see you in person, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts and hope you enjoyed the night as much as we did. There is talk of further work in Portugal in the future so we will keep you posted.

We have indeed since returned to Portugal, appearing at the Centro de Artes e Espectáculos in Figueira da Foz in January 2008, where a packed crowd gave as a standing ovation. It was a great night and there are plans for many more......

Platinum ABBA at Hampton Pool

We performed at Hampton Pool in summer 2007. It was a great evening and helped raise money for them to continue providing this great service to their community. It was a fantastic night, with a jumping crowd. Everyone was full of praise for the band, including the organisers:

"These guys are seriously good...you will be blown away; close your eyes and they could just be the real thing; lots of energy and fun and all live!  We will have them back, and our customers told us they were better than Bjorn Again." Paul Campbell, Hampton Pool

WISHES 4 KIDS Whatever the wish, it is our challenge to make it come true

Platinum ABBA were privileged to play at the Wishes 4 Kids Christmas Ball in 2004. The night was a great success and the event raised thousands of pounds to provide many more children with their wish.

The organiser sent us a lovely note; to see what he said, click on the star icon

The event was so successful that the charity booked the musicians again for their 2005 event. Wishes 4 Kids is a relatively new charity which had been created to grant a wish for children and youngsters in Leicestershire who are life limited, terminally ill, have experienced major physical or emotional traumas, have suffered major abuse or are diagnosed as HIV Positive. The Charity grants wishes for those of eighteen years and below.

Although they have only been in existence for a short time, they have thus far managed to make wishes come true for many deserving children, here are just some of those wishes: meeting football stars, going to concerts and shows, visiting Disneyland, driving a steam train, an audience with the Pope, and being driven around a race circuit in a Ferrari.

Obviously, their need is on-going, so if you would like to help, donations can be made by cheque, debit card or credit card. Or maybe you know of a child who could benefit from the charity's work and have their dream come true.

You can check out full details, make donations or contact them directly at their website on www.wishes4kids.org.

Petersfield Post Review - Wednesday, June 9, 2004:

Having the time of our lives at ABBA tribute band Show

"Better than the original," they said. A bold claim when you are trying to emulate one of the most successful pop acts ever; a band which has sold more records than The Beatles. Nonetheless, 400 Petersfield residents took them at their word and headed to the Festival Hall on Thursday to check out Platinum ABBA.

The group claims to be the only tribute act to play completely live, without the aid of backing tapes - and they sound fantastic.

It took precisely two songs to break the ice. The opening few bars of Take A Chance On Me were enough to encourage the first fans out of their seats and up on to their feet and the tone was set for the rest of the evening.

The grand old Festival Hall, normally home to am-dram plays or classical concerts, cannot be used to such scenes. Dancing in the aisles simply isn't done at Gilbert and Sullivan, you know.

The authenticity of the sounds was matched by the costumes. Contour clinging white Spandex and glittery silver trimmings took us back to the decade that taste forgot. Bjorn, Benny, Frida and Agnetha certainly looked striking in their tight white suits….

The string of hits kept the tempo high with every number a sing-alonger. There were a few hardcore fans, dressed in their best seventies gear, who knew every lyric of every track but even an ABBA agnostic could not fail to recognise the songs and be carried along by their familiar refrains.

The evening was comically compèred by Benny, complete with wig, false beard and even falser Swedish accent, who set up each section with skits which played on the legend of the band and up-to-date events. .… the show proved a real hit, engaging and entertaining the audience in equal measure.

ABBA EXTRAVAGANZA WITH FIREWORKS!

After the fabulous success of the St Mellion Festival, where 4,500 people flocked to see them, Platinum ABBA did it all again, only bigger and better! They performed in their own right at three Summer Concerts to huge crowds. People have been contacting the band ever since asking for details of more public events.

Many thanks to everyone who sent in their kind comments. Here are just a few of them:

"Saw you at Ragley Hall - you were out of this world, the event was one of the best nights out ever... you are Fabulous.. you are as good IF NOT BETTER than the "real thing" as I have been an avid ABBA fan all my life."

Adele Halsey-Wells, Worcestershire

"Stonor Park ...what a wonderful evening, can't wait for the next concert. Could not get over how much like Abba you were. Not only was the music great, we also enjoyed the banter in between the songs. Thanks for a thoroughly enjoyable evening."

Marcella Hodgson, Berkshire

"Wow! Many congrats on your super show. Clearly you have worked incredibly hard on the harmonies and putting it all together to make it into such a great entertainment. .....the whole evening was such fun, especially seeing people of all ages singing and dancing together. Presentation and movement was first class. Take another bow!"

Pamela Barter, Berkshire

"What a great show you put on at Stonor Park... I was a little cynical before the show, as I have been known to say no one can take the place of Abba, but you guys were excellent.... Thanks for the happy memories."

Paula Dale (Stonor Park concert)

"Enjoyed your show tonight, your standard of performance is excellent. The last Abba show I saw was in Las Vegas..... your singing etc., was as good if not better. Thank you once again for a marvellous evening."

Celia Herbert - Dorset

"Great costumes and stage set - Amusing commentary and professional keyboards - Good driving rhythm section - Girls were monumentally brilliant - dancing, singing, audience interaction, and smiling genuinely all the time. So we have to tell you that you are "Simply the Best" and we want to "Thank You For the Music". You clearly had great fun presenting this - so did we."

Tim & Val (Tivoli Theatre show)

"What a great night!!!!!!! I applaud you once more and look forward to seeing you all again."

Roger Jones (Ragley Hall concert)

"Thanks for a great evening in Padstow last night. I haven't enjoyed myself so much for a long time. What a great way to entertain, right across the age groups."

Shirley Borton - Padstow

PLATINUM ABBA UNFROCKED IN CHINA!

We don't normally show pictures of the band without their costumes, wigs and makeup, but just had to make an exception here! The band were recently asked to perform at the British Embassy Ball in Beijing, China. How could they refuse! Though based in the United Kingdom, Platinum ABBA are constantly in demand at events and venues throughout the world, but this visit took some beating! The embassy staff were truly fantastic, generously giving up their time to show the band some of the country's wonderful sights including The Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and, of course, The Great Wall of China (see picture above) as well as some truly fantastic restaurants! After their performance in Beijing, the band were introduced to the British Ambassador who told them he had two other people who wanted to meet them. These turned out to be the Swedish Ambassador and his wife, who spent the next ten minutes teaching the band Swedish! The band made many friends whilst there and look forward to returning sometime in the future.

News Posted Spring 2001

Firstly, we'd like to say a huge THANK YOU to all those who helped make 2000 the best Platinum ABBA year yet.... and what a year it was!

In response to demand, the band increased their number of theatre shows, enabling fans to see the band perform up and down the country.  It seems from your comments, that the biggest disappointment is that Platinum ABBA don't do enough of them!!!  This is due to the phenomenal work rate and commitments the band have regarding corporate and private clients, as well as being constantly in demand on the student circuit.  But the good news for 2001 is that the band are looking to further increase their presence on the theatre circuit (workload permitting!) with a possible tour being arranged for later in the year.  Incidentally, if you live in or near London, you can always see the band perform live at one of their many showcase appearances at The Roadhouse in Covent Garden.

You could also travel to the continent if you can't get enough, as the band performed an increasing number of commitments abroad last year!

Memorable moments included performing at the colossal Estoril Casino in Portugal, the largest casino in Europe, to an ecstatic audience, singing and dancing for all they were worth!  It seems the language barrier was no problem either, with the rather bizarre situation of a Portuguese audience being thoroughly entertained between songs by the band's English banter, spoken in mock-Swedish accents!  In fact, such was the reaction to the band's performance that, within 2 minutes of leaving the stage, they were surrounded by the excited Casino's management and asked to appear on New Year's Eve at its sister venue in the holiday resort of Pavoa!  With the additional offer of being allowed to take partners and family out with them, how could they refuse!

PLATINUM ABBA TRULY UNPLUGGED!

Their performance at the Casino Da Pavoa was the last of the year, with the band seeing in 2001 in style.  But not before a few heart stopping moments when the Casino's entire sound system suffered from a loss of power, not once or twice.... but three times!  Many of the lesser tribute bands who rely on backing tapes would have ended up with egg on their faces.  But not the mighty Platinum ABBA!  They simply continued with their performance, switching immediately into their unplugged show routine, keeping the audience on their feet, singing and dancing; proving you can't keep a good LIVE band down!

Whilst reflecting on their performances abroad, we cannot leave the subject without a mention of their 6 shows at the Hotel Fürigen in Lucerne, Switzerland. Dirk & Desiree Post, owners of the Fürigen, are the nicest hosts you could ever hope to meet and work for!  The band were at the hotel in Switzerland for a week, perched high up on a mountainside with a stunning panoramic view of Lake Lucerne; though some mornings they had breakfast looking down on the tops of clouds!  Whilst performing for a succession of corporate clients in the evenings, the band heard of Dirk & Desiree's charity for disabled and terminally ill Swiss children, set up after their own baby son died.  The Posts invite the children and their families to a special Christmas party each year, giving the parents a much needed chance to relax and enjoy themselves whilst the children are entertained.  The band were so moved by what they heard, they offered to delay their flight home and perform a special show for the children.  It was arguably the hardest, though undoubtedly most rewarding, show the band have ever performed.  One memory, amongst many, that the band will treasure was when the parent of one child, who had demonstrated a remarkable talent for timekeeping whilst playing a tambourine on-stage with the band, informed them after the show that he was now going to send his son for drum lessons as he'd always suspected him of having this latent talent.  Fantastic!

So thanks, once again, to Dirk & Desiree for making the band's stay in Switzerland such a memorable one.

PLATINUM ABBA ON THE TELLY!

Usually, being featured on BBC1's Watchdog programme is not something to be proud of!  But Platinum ABBA were and are!  The BBC asked the band to perform "Take A Chance On Me" as part of a live transmission item they were doing from the Cafe Royal in London, where Platinum ABBA were performing at The Big Bang Ball.  The band duly obliged and performed acappella and absolutely live.
