PLATINUM RETURNED TO DORKING HALLS; THE WILDE THEATRE & THE TIVOLI THEATRE WITH THEIR XMAS SHOW in 2016
A Sparkling Night of ABBA Glam, Glitz & Xmas Fun!
PLATINUM returned to Dorking Halls; Wilde Theatre, Bracknell & Tivoli Theatre, Wimborne in 2016
3 great nights and another sell-out show. Here are some of the wonderful comments we received:
"PLATINUM at The Tivoli - The Best Yet? Have been to at least 6 or 7 PLATINUM concerts at The Tivoli over recent years. I honestly think that last night’s concert was the best we’ve seen...captured the oh-so-important sexy presence of the girls in the original band and, especially singing together, have got those harmonies pretty much perfectly. Well done to all in the band for a superb performance. We look forward to 2017!"
"Fantastic night watching PLATINUM last night. Great fun."
"What a fabulous night last night. You rocked it. Music was amazing. This is my third year of seeing you and I will be back next year."
"Thanks, what a great show, up dancing all night."
"Thanks as ever for a fabulous evening! You made Wimborne rock!!! Thank you all for such wonderful entertainment. We are already looking forward to next year's show!"
"Absolutely brilliant; thanks for such a great show.. It was so polished and perfect, so everybody enjoyed it and came away really lifted."
"Thanks for a fab show tonight - we come every year to the Bracknell show and always have a great time!"
"They were sooooo good!!!! So pleased we came."
"We had such a blast thank you."
"Superb show yet again, Wilde Theatre were on there feet, loved it, see you next year and thanks for kicking off Xmas for us all. x"
Thanks to everyone who came along and to those who took the time to write to us.

A RETURN TO SPAIN for PLATINUM!
In August, PLATINUM headlined at the Fiestas de San Lorenzo performing in the Plaza de Navarra, Huesca in Northern Spain.
They were so pleased to be making a return to Spain so quickly and thoroughly enjoyed this great fiesta!
PLATINUM MADE A RETURN TO MARVELLOUS FESTIVALS in July 2015
Top of the recently conducted Marvellous artists poll, along with Queen, was ABBA. So PLATINUM made a welcome return to this great festival in July 2015. What a great audience they were there.
Y Viva España - PLATINUM in the Basque Region!
It's always an extra pleasure for PLATINUM to perform in new territories!!! This was the case for their theatre show in Spain in the Basque region at the Fronton Astelana in Eibar, near Bilbao, where they performed to a capacity crowd of around 1000 people. The audience didn't disappoint, raising the roof of the Fronton Hall from the minute they walked on stage and sustaining the incredible atmosphere right to the end.
PLATINUM Theatre Show
RNLI Stourbridge Charity Event
PLATINUM performed their theatre show for the RNLI charity event recently. A really fun night and great to be working to raise money for a charity.
Woodford Wells Cricket Club Summer Gala
In July, PLATINUM headlined at the Woodford Wells Cricket Club Summer Gala again this year - and another good show. Got a lovely message from the client:
"I can't begin to thank you all enough for such a fantastic day yesterday ....those who were there will remember the afternoon for a very long time!
Everyone is raving about what a great day it was.
Thanks again to you and your crew for a truly memorable event."
Look out for details on our NEWS page of our next show there!
PLATINUM in the Park a HUGE success!
£10,000 raised for a very worthy cause.
PLATINUM's return to Nonsuch Park, Cheam - an outdoor concert staged in front of the beautiful Nonsuch Mansion in order to raise funds for St Raphael’s Hospice - was an unqualified success. With summer finally arriving, a record, sell-out crowd for the event of 1,000 revellers danced and sang their way through the band's packed, hour and a half set proving, yet again, the mass appeal of ABBA's music and... we would like to think... the appreciation of it being performed absolutely live to an impeccable standard!
With £10,000 being raised for the hospice, the charity has already bookd PLATINUM to return next year. Watch this space for ticket details!
Further information on this charity can be found at www.straphaels.org.uk.
FIRST OF THE SUMMER WINE!
An estimated 10,000 people came to see PLATINUM perform at the famous Anadia Wine Festival in Portugal on 27th June.
The trip was the first of five public and private events the band have scheduled to perform in Portugal this year. As one of PLATINUM's favourite destinations around the world - given the guaranteed sun, food and wonderful crowds they always experience there - the band are delighted to be able to continue their successful association with this country.
RETURN TO THE LISINSKI CONCERT HALL, ZAGREB
PLATINUM made a welcome return to the fantastic Lisinski Concert Hall, having last performed there in 2008. But this time it was a non-public affair - as is so often the case with their hectic calendar - appearing for Amex Platinum at their private and appropriately named Platinum Card Party. This was PLATINUM's 5th visit to Croatia and they're very much looking forward to the next one!
Music in the Park
at Nonsuch Mansion, Nonsuch Park, Cheam
St Raphael's Hospice held another Music in the Park event this summer to raise money for their hospice. Once again, PLATINUM were performing. The open air concert was a fabulous success, with great weather and a wonderful audience, raising lots of money for the hospice..
THE PERFECT WAY TO START 2013
PLATINUM spent New Year's Eve performing for the people of Cardiff, who proved that they really do know how to sing in Wales! An estimated 10,000 people joined in the celebrations as PLATINUM apparently drew the biggest crowd for this event since the Millenium! A heartfelt "thank you" to all those who attended and to the staff of Cardiff City Council who couldn't have done more to make the band feel at home. Performing outside in thin lycra can present a challenge in the depths of winter, but seeing as the band had performed in Cardiff city centre two years earlier at exactly the same time of year - promoting the opening of Swedish firm Clas Ohlson's new megastore - they're getting used to it. It's a good job they're so energetic on stage!
PLATINUM at The Tivoli, Wimborne
PLATINUM returned to this wonderful, independent theatre - again!! A fantastic night was had by all; singing and dancing along to all the great ABBA songs: from Mamma Mia to Dancing Queen to Waterloo!
"Saw @PlatinumABBA tonight. It was even better then last year. Can't wait till next year's show"
"Fantastic, you guys just get better and better !!! Thanks, we are big fans xx"
"I went to Wimborne last night for the second year running and loved it ."
"Thanks so much, AGAIN, for making our evening so memorable. We all had a really excellent time and are keen "to book again for 17 Jan 2015!"
Some of PLATINUM's Young Fans at The Tivoli, Wimborne
Great costumes from these lovely girls - so good to see!
Sell Out Show at the Wilde Theatre!!
PLATINUM greatly appreciate all those that turned out to their Christmas show at the Wilde Theatre and helped make it a sell out. As always, a great night was had by all... not least the band! The packed theatre audience were treated to a rare PLATINUM performance of Happy New Year, albeit it a few weeks early!
A Big Thank You for the Music!
To everyone who came along to Dorking Halls and Thornden Hall theatre shows in November. The band received some lovely emails and Facebook posts from people about the shows. Here is just one: "Great night - my girlfriend & I surprised ours mums - thank U - very talented - amazing voices ladies - & the wow u men know how to play those instruments - enjoy further success by spreading the ABBA love X"
NEW YEAR's EVE - Winter Wonderland

PLATINUM in Israel
PLATINUM have recently returned from their latest trip to perform in Israel. Both shows were outdoor on the beach in Eilat - fab audiences and great fun! In March, they were at The Dead Sea. What an amazing night - and they even managed to have time for a float in the Dead Sea before the show. Thanks go to all fans who contacted them after the show.

Picnic to Music in the Park
Saturday 9th July
Thanks to all those people who have written in to say how much they enjoyed the band's performance at Picnic to Music in the Park at Farnborough. The combination of PLATINUM and Killer Queen had the 7,000 strong crowd on their feet from start to finish. It was touch and go with the weather, but the rain thankfully stayed away so everyone was able to enjoy a beautiful evening. PLATINUM have worked with Killer Queen on many occasions over the years and look forward to doing so again in the not too distant future.
THANK YOU JASMINE!
This is the beautiful card we recieved from the lovely Jasmine at our show at Wimborne this year!! She and her sister, Daisy, have been coming to see us for 3yrs now. It is always great to see the youngsters in the audience and having such a lovely time - and their parents too, of course!!! So thought we'd put this special mention on our website for everyone to see.
PLATINUM - Festivals in Portugal
PLATINUM have had a number of trips to Portugal again recently performing at festivals out there. The first festival line-up also included: Peter Murphy, CJ Ramone, Alphaville, The Waterboys and Swing Out Sister. The band have had some fantastic feedback from audience members as well as great comments from the other bands. They were particularly delighted to see CJ Ramone (of the Ramones) and the rest of his band enjoying their set at the side of the stage. As the two bands met after the show, they were delighted to be told "you'd pay top dollar to see that in New York!" It proves that the power of ABBA's music appeals to the broadest spectrum of people when it includes someone who's played with one of the great and legendary punk bands. Perhaps they were also won over with PLATINUM's energy and the fact that they do it live!!!!! PLATINUM were the only band for the other festivals.

PLATINUM Went Back to Romania with their ABBA Tribute Show
PLATINUM always take great delight in being invited to perform their ABBA tribute show abroad. The band always feels very privileged to be able to experience the cultures of other countries whilst combining this with their work. So it comes as an extra pleasure when they get a chance to perform in a country they haven't visited before. They were lucky enough to have this chance in May when they were asked to perform two shows in Bucharest. The band would like to thank everyone involved for the wonderful hospitality afforded to them and look forward to visiting Romania again in the not too distant future.
They didn't have to wait long as they were back there again for another show on 19th June!

Thursday 24th June 2010
PLATINUM performed their live ABBA tribute show in the wonderful setting of the gardens of Nonsuch Mansion in Nonsuch Park, Cheam to help raise funds for St Raphael’s Hospice. The band would like to thank everyone who came up to them afterwards with their compliments and they are glad you all enjoyed the show.

PLATINUM's Trip to the Land of the Pharoahs!
The band had a trip to Egypt in November 2009 where they performed to 5000 students at the GUC. A superb night and the crowd was fantastic. They have received some great emails from the students following the show. Here are some of them:

Look out for PLATINUM at other store openings in the future.
PLATINUM Were Back at the Picturedrome in Holmfirth
4th and 5th December
After yet another storming show in July - PLATINUM returned to The Picturedrome in Holmfirth for two more Christmas shows. Two great nights with everyone dressing up in true ABBA style.
PLATINUM return to Croatia
The band returned to Croatia in November to perform at the "birthday celebrations" for a shopping centre in Zagreb. Another successful trip to this lovely country.
PLATINUM in Portugal
PLATINUM had a a hectic summer including a number of great shows in Portugal in July and August, performing at outdoor festivals there. They have performed in many places from The Algarve to the north of the country and to audiences as big as 20,000. In Canthede they were on stage with one of Portugal's top artists, Joao Pedro Pais, the other shows were just PLATINUM. They also had fabulous weather for each show too - not like back here in England!
PLATINUM have plans for more shows in Portugal in 2010 so check out main News page.
ABBA Fest - Scotland's First Ever ABBA Festival
PLATINUM were delighted to be chosen to feature in "ABBA Fest - Scotland's first ever ABBA Festival" where they performed their theatre show at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange on 30th May. The evening went really well and everyone had a fab time - it was great to see so many people dressed up too!
PLATINUM SHOW AT ST IVES FESTIVAL
A great time was had by all this theatre show on Bank Holiday Monday 25th May, as can be seen by the review below:
"The visual and vocal spectacular got off to a soaring start with ‘Lay all your Love on Me’ then ‘Mamma Mia’, by which time the audience were waving their arms in lusty tribute to the song that named the eponymous show and film. The first half drew to its close, with the band’s harder edge in the surprisingly rocky ‘On & On & On’, the taunting ‘So Long’ – “…you won’t have me tonight; alright, alright, alright…” trilled the girls – and the beautifully executed S.O.S. with a Hendrix quality guitar riff to usher in the interval. Perhaps this was a good time to reflect on the visual, vocal and musical spectacular that is PLATINUM with their immaculate costumes, step perfect routines and iconic Abba stances plus, most important of all, they play all of the music themselves. This is not some CD backed, Karaoke Abba tribute but a talented, dedicated band brilliantly reproducing the sound and style of a twentieth century popular music phenomenon. The musicians are all at the top of their game and the two girls epitomise that raunchy ‘girl next door’ allure that added ‘strictly Swedish’ to the lexicon of musical erotica.... An encore of the cheeky ‘Does your Mother know?’ and ‘Waterloo’ closed an evening that had flown by in a blur of happy familiarity and toe tapping pleasure. It was all written on the faces of the audience as they left; smiles, smiles, smiles."
John Hancock - Freelance Journalist - St Ives Guildhall
Thanks to everyone who came along and made it such a fab evening!
SWEDISH STORE OPENING
CLAS OHLSON - Manchester
PLATINUM were very pleased to have been chosen by Swedish store, Clas Ohlson, to perform in the Arndale Centre, Manchester on Saturday 2nd May to celebrate the opening of this prestigious flagship store. Everyone had a super time and the Clas Ohlson store is great! If you're in Manchester, take a look! And look out for PLATINUM at other store openings in the future.
PLATINUM's 2008 Sellout Christmas Theatre Dates
Having performed around the world, PLATINUM finally made it to their "Benny" & "Frida"'s home town! They took their theatre show to The Wilde Theatre, South Hill Park in Bracknell on Wednesday 3rd & Thursday 4th December. And what a great couple of nights it was - both selling out. Fab audiences were dancing in the aisles each night. They returned in 2009 and will be there again in 2010.
PLATINUM in Holmfirth
Following the huge success of their screening of the "Mamma Mia!" movie at The Picturedrome in Holmfirth, PLATINUM had been asked to perform there on Friday 5th December. This show sold out 6 weeks in advance - apparently they could have sold it out 4 times over!!! So they returned there in July and December 2009.
PLATINUM took their ABBA Tribute Show Abroad Again & Again!
Having done many shows abroad before, 2008 proved to be no exception. The band travelled to Portugal, did 4 shows in Israel, Croatia twice, Belgium and Moscow. Their concert in the Lisinksi Concert Hall, Zagreb, Croatia's No. 1 venue, was a huge success and they were interviewed by Croatian National TV, who also filmed some of the show, for their top entertainment show.
Here is a wonderful picture that was handed to "Frida" at the end of the concert; drawn by a lovely little girl called Mia. Click on it to see it full size.
Thank you Mia!
And here are a couple snippets from the many lovely emails we received after the show:
"It was amazing!!!...thank you!!! Just keep doing that, and come again in Croatia!"
"You've been absolutely fantastic! I was enjoying to listen that timeless music of ABBA and you really sounded like them. Thank you for great show and I hope to hear you live again!"
PLATINUM performed at "Mamma Mia!" Premiere in Moscow
The "Mamma Mia!" film opened in Moscow in 2008 and PLATINUM were so excited to have been invited to perform at the premiere showing - a delight to be at this prestigious event in Moscow. And they all had a great time there.
They also did 2 more shows in Croatia: Following their fantastic night in Dubrovnik during the Summer of 2008 - performing to a multi-national, sell-out audience including many of Croatia's top models, celebrities and TV personalities as well as press and media representatives, along with Croatian, Russian and English tourists, PLATINUM were booked to return there on New Year's Eve 2008 - to an even bigger venue as well as another event back at the original venue on 1st January 2009.
PLATINUM were Moscow Bound!
Spreading their wings to a new territory, PLATINUM did a promo event in Moscow in August - had a great trip and enjoyed being taken to Red Square. They'd always wanted to go there and hope to be heading that way again some time. They don't normally include pictures of the band out of their ABBA disguises, but couldn't resist with this one of us by the Moscow River in front of the Kremlin wall:
PLATINUM in Croatia - and the BBC Radio Interview
"Many thanks for your great performance, it was truly spectacular."
PLATINUM had a fantastic night in Dubrovnik, Croatia on 3rd August - an outdoor performance along Dubrovnik's fabulous coastline for which the setting was absolutely stunning with the band playing outside, enjoying the balmy night air, starlit sky and glorious views of the Adriatic Sea. The multi-national, sell-out audience included many of Croatia's top models, celebrities and TV personalities as well as press and media representatives, along with Croatian, Russian and English tourists. Such was the success of our performance, that PLATINUM were immediately booked to return to an even bigger Dubrovnik venue for a show on New Year's Eve.
The phenomenal success of the "Mamma Mia" movie recently resulted in the ABBA compilation album "ABBA Gold" reaching No. 1 in the UK album charts and knocking Cold Play from that coveted position! PLATINUM are delighted that the film will introduce a whole new audience to the music of ABBA. On the day of "ABBA Gold" achieving this remarkable feat, PLATINUM's "Benny" was contacted, whilst still in Croatia, and asked to do a live interview for BBC Radio Berkshire (Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire) at 8 o'clock in the morning, which he stoically agreed to despite having played to the Dubrovnik audience the previous night and only having gone to bed in the wee hours of the morning!
Nights at the Races
All three racenights at Windsor, Lingfield & Folkestone were extremely successful with all crowds exceeding racecourse expectations. PLATINUM's first trip to Windsor on 28th July turned out to be a great crowd-puller with 8,400 people turning up that night. Lingfield on 2nd August was yet again a tremendous turn out of over 5000 people - for the third time, a really fun night at this lovely racecourse. And Folkestone had expected 1500 people, but 2500 turned up!
PLATINUM at the Marvellous08 Festival
PLATINUM's show at Marvellous08 three day festival on Saturday 19th July at Wellington Country Park went really well and the weather was great that day. A crowd of 4,500 come along so there was a great atmosphere too. A festival to be recommended if you see it advertised. They were asked to perform there again in 2009, but unfortunately, were already booked for events in Portugal so couldn't do it.
PLATINUM at Harpenden Public Halls
The band had a great night at the Public Halls on 30th May. A big thank you to everyone who turned up to this gig and for supporting live music in Harpenden.
PLATINUM in Israel
PLATINUM performed an outdoor concert in Eilat, Israel in October 2007 to an audience of 2,000. A fantastic night and with great views from the stage of the Red Sea and the mountains of Jordan!
They returned to Israel the following week to play at a wedding in Tel Aviv for 400 people. It was a spectacular wedding reception - they really know how to do it in Israel. They then had another 4 big corporate events in March 2008 in Tel Aviv where they played to audiences of up to 2,500 - PLATINUM had some fab shows there and all went well.
The band members were even taken on a guided tour of Jerusalem while they were there - what a lovely and very interesting city.
A number of future gigs are planned for the country, so PLATINUM are really looking forward to those.
PLATINUM Strutted Their Stuff at
The Tivoli Theatre in Wimborne Again
on Friday 28th March 2008
After PLATINUM's first performance at this lovely 500-seater, 1930's cine/theatre in 2003, the theatre management said "They will definitely be back...." and they have been - this was their 5th show at The Tivoli. They have now been there 7 times.
See the testimonials from this venue by clicking on the links below:
PLATINUM had another great night and thanks to all those fans who turned up! And to the Hen Party for being such fun!
Following many successful trips to Portugal and Madeira, PLATINUM played a wonderful outdoor event in the City of Vizela as part of the festivities for the Mayor of Vizela in August 2007 to a storming crowd estimated by the promoters to be in the region of 15,000 people! They know from emails sent to their fan club that some PLATINUM fans holidaying in the area were intending to come to Vizela to see them. If you did, and they didn't get to see you in person, they would like to thank you from the bottom of their hearts and hope you enjoyed the night as much as they did. There is talk of further work in Portugal in the future so we will keep you posted.
PLATINUM have indeed since returned to Portugal on many occasions, appearing at the Centro de Artes e Espectáculos in Figueira da Foz in January 2008, where a packed crowd gave them a standing ovation. It was a great night and there are plans for many more......
PLATINUM at Hampton Pool
PLATINUM - The Live ABBA Tribure Show performed at Hampton Pool in summer 2007. It was a great evening and helped raise money for the pool to continue providing this great service to their community. It was a fantastic night, with a jumping crowd. Everyone was full of praise for the band, including the organisers:
"These guys are seriously good...you will be blown away; close your eyes and they could just be the real thing; lots of energy and fun and all live! We will have them back, and our customers told us they were better than Bjorn Again." Paul Campbell, Hampton Pool
PLATINUM have performed their live ABBA tribute show at many racecourses - keep checking here or future Race Night ABBA Shows..
WISHES 4 KIDS Whatever the wish, it is our challenge to make it come true
PLATINUM were privileged to play at the Wishes 4 Kids Christmas Ball. The night was a great success and the event raised thousands of pounds to provide many more children with their wish.
The event was so successful that the charity booked the musicians again for their 2005 event.
Wishes 4 Kids has been created to grant a wish for children and youngsters in Leicestershire who are life limited, terminally ill, have experienced life-changing physical or emotional traumas, have suffered major abuse or are diagnosed as HIV Positive. The Charity grants wishes for those of eighteen years and below.
Wishes 4 Kids has already granted hundreds of wishes for the local children.
Sadly they do not have a magical cure for the suffering of these youngsters, however, they can bring a short period of respite. The time when a child has a wish granted is a moment that will be treasured by them for the rest of their life. It is also a time which parents will remember - that time when their child forgot the suffering.
Obviously, their need is on-going, so if you would like to help, donations can be made by cheque, debit card or credit card. Or maybe you know of a child who could benefit from the charity's work and have their dream come true.
You can check out full details, make donations or contact them directly at their website on www.wishes4kids.co.uk.
Having the time of our lives at ABBA tribute band Show
"Better than the original," they said. A bold claim when you are trying to emulate one of the most successful pop acts ever; a band which has sold more records than The Beatles. Nonetheless, 400 Petersfield residents took them at their word and headed to the Festival Hall on Thursday to check out PLATINUM.
The group claims to be the only tribute act to play completely live, without the aid of backing tapes - and they sound fantastic.
It took precisely two songs to break the ice. The opening few bars of Take A Chance On Me were enough to encourage the first fans out of their seats and up on to their feet and the tone was set for the rest of the evening.
The grand old Festival Hall, normally home to am-dram plays or classical concerts, cannot be used to such scenes. Dancing in the aisles simply isn't done at Gilbert and Sullivan, you know.
The authenticity of the sounds was matched by the costumes. Contour clinging white Spandex and glittery silver trimmings took us back to the decade that taste forgot. Bjorn, Benny, Frida and Agnetha certainly looked striking in their tight white suits….
The string of hits kept the tempo high with every number a sing-alonger. There were a few hardcore fans, dressed in their best seventies gear, who knew every lyric of every track but even an ABBA agnostic could not fail to recognise the songs and be carried along by their familiar refrains.
The evening was comically compèred by Benny, complete with wig, false beard and even falser Swedish accent, who set up each section with skits which played on the legend of the band and up-to-date events. .… the show proved a real hit, engaging and entertaining the audience in equal measure.
ABBA EXTRAVAGANZA WITH FIREWORKS!
After the fabulous success of the St Mellion Festival, where 4,500 people flocked to see them, PLATINUM did it all again, only bigger and better! They performed in their own right at three Summer Concerts to huge crowds. People have been contacting the band ever since asking for details of more public events.
Many thanks to everyone who sent in their kind comments. Here are just a few of them:
"Saw you at Ragley Hall - you were out of this world, the event was one of the best nights out ever... you are Fabulous.. you are as good IF NOT BETTER than the "real thing" as I have been an avid ABBA fan all my life."
Adele Halsey-Wells, Worcestershire
"Stonor Park ...what a wonderful evening, can't wait for the next concert. Could not get over how much like Abba you were. Not only was the music great, we also enjoyed the banter in between the songs. Thanks for a thoroughly enjoyable evening."
Marcella Hodgson, Berkshire
"Wow! Many congrats on your super show. Clearly you have worked incredibly hard on the harmonies and putting it all together to make it into such a great entertainment. .....the whole evening was such fun, especially seeing people of all ages singing and dancing together. Presentation and movement was first class. Take another bow!"
Pamela Barter, Berkshire
"What a great show you put on at Stonor Park... I was a little cynical before the show, as I have been known to say no one can take the place of Abba, but you guys were excellent.... Thanks for the happy memories."
Paula Dale (Stonor Park concert)
"Enjoyed your show tonight, your standard of performance is excellent. The last Abba show I saw was in Las Vegas..... your singing etc., was as good if not better. Thank you once again for a marvellous evening."
Celia Herbert - Dorset
"Great costumes and stage set - Amusing commentary and professional keyboards - Good driving rhythm section - Girls were monumentally brilliant - dancing, singing, audience interaction, and smiling genuinely all the time. So we have to tell you that you are "Simply the Best" and we want to "Thank You For the Music". You clearly had great fun presenting this - so did we."
Tim & Val (Tivoli Theatre show)
"What a great night!!!!!!! I applaud you once more and look forward to seeing you all again."
Roger Jones (Ragley Hall concert)
"Thanks for a great evening in Padstow last night. I haven't enjoyed myself so much for a long time. What a great way to entertain, right across the age groups."
Shirley Borton - Padstow
PLATINUM UNFROCKED IN CHINA!
PLATINUM don't usually show pictures of the band without their costumes, wigs and makeup, but just had to make an exception here! The band had been asked to perform at the British Embassy Ball in Beijing, China. How could they refuse! Though based in the United Kingdom, PLATINUM are constantly in demand at events and venues throughout the world, but this visit took some beating! The embassy staff were truly fantastic, generously giving up their time to show the band some of the country's wonderful sights including The Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and, of course, The Great Wall of China (see picture above) as well as some truly fantastic restaurants! After their performance in Beijing, the band were introduced to the British Ambassador who told them he had two other people who wanted to meet them. These turned out to be the Swedish Ambassador and his wife, who spent the next ten minutes teaching the band Swedish! The band made many friends whilst there and look forward to returning sometime in the future.
NEWS Posted Spring 2001
Firstly, the band would like to say a huge THANK YOU to all those who helped make 2000 the best PLATINUM year yet.... and what a year it was!
In response to demand, the band increased their number of theatre shows, enabling fans to see them perform up and down the country. It seems from your comments, that the biggest disappointment is that PLATINUM don't do enough of them!!! This is due to the phenomenal work rate and commitments the band have regarding corporate and private clients, as well as being constantly in demand on the student circuit and for shows abroad.
So y ou could also travel to the continent if you can't get enough, as the band performed an increasing number of commitments abroad last year!
Memorable moments included performing at the colossal Estoril Casino in Portugal, the largest casino in Europe, to an ecstatic audience, singing and dancing for all they were worth! It seems the language barrier was no problem either, with the rather bizarre situation of a Portuguese audience being thoroughly entertained between songs by the band's English banter, spoken in mock-Swedish accents! In fact, such was the reaction to the band's performance that, within 2 minutes of leaving the stage, they were surrounded by the excited Casino's management and asked to appear on New Year's Eve at its sister venue in the holiday resort of Pavoa! With the additional offer of being allowed to take partners and family out with them, how could they refuse!
PLATINUM TRULY UNPLUGGED!
Their performance at the Casino Da Pavoa was the last of the year, with the band seeing in 2001 in style. But not before a few heart stopping moments when the Casino's entire sound system suffered from a loss of power, not once or twice.... but three times! Many of the lesser tribute bands who rely on backing tapes would have ended up with egg on their faces. But not the mighty PLATINUM! They simply continued with their performance, switching immediately into their unplugged show routine, keeping the audience on their feet, singing and dancing; proving you can't keep a good LIVE band down!
Whilst reflecting on their performances abroad, we cannot leave the subject without a mention of their 6 shows at the Hotel Fürigen in Lucerne, Switzerland. Dirk & Desiree Post, owners of the Fürigen, are the nicest hosts you could ever hope to meet and work for! The band were at the hotel in Switzerland for a week, perched high up on a mountainside with a stunning panoramic view of Lake Lucerne; though some mornings they had breakfast looking down on the tops of clouds! Whilst performing for a succession of corporate clients in the evenings, the band heard of Dirk & Desiree's charity for disabled and terminally ill Swiss children, set up after their own baby son died. The Posts invite the children and their families to a special Christmas party each year, giving the parents a much needed chance to relax and enjoy themselves whilst the children are entertained. The band were so moved by what they heard, they offered to delay their flight home and perform a special show for the children. It was arguably the hardest, though undoubtedly most rewarding, show the band have ever performed. One memory, amongst many, that the band will treasure was when the parent of one child, who had demonstrated a remarkable talent for timekeeping whilst playing a tambourine on-stage with the band, informed them after the show that he was now going to send his son for drum lessons as he'd always suspected him of having this latent talent. Fantastic!
So thanks, once again, to Dirk & Desiree for making the band's stay in Switzerland such a memorable one.
PLATINUM ON THE TELLY!
Usually, being featured on BBC1's Watchdog programme is not something to be proud of! But PLATINUM were and are! The BBC asked the band to perform "Take A Chance On Me" as part of a live transmission item they were doing from the Cafe Royal in London, where PLATINUM were performing at The Big Bang Ball. The band duly obliged and performed acappella and absolutely live.
